'Bout To Get Smacked Up 'Side The Head

I can feel it coming.

Let me set the stage for you.

Wednesday night I am driving home, late, from the office. I have to stay late to deal with some Human Resources issues...never fun. While wrapping up my email late that afternoon, I receive a message from a teacher letting me know that a child has not turned in a project that was due last week. I am rushing home to confront said child and get them started on the project. During the drive I keep getting phone calls asking me where supplies are located for the project. I can only stay a minute, (okay, ten minutes at the most) because I need to be at the high school soon for Open House.

In short, I am frustrated. And irritated.

During my short time at home, all I can think about is escaping into a book when I get home from the Open House. Just relax. Run away. Decompress.

I can't wait until I get home to find out what I am going to read, so I go ahead and draw a slip of paper from my bowl.

I open the paper, roll my eyes and twist my mouth into a smirk.

"Okay, Lord! Very funny!", I say to Him under my breath.

Choosing Gratitude: Your Journey To Joy (by Nancy Leigh DeMoss) will be my new companion for the next few weeks. (It is not a long book, but there is a 30-day devotional included.)

Over the last few days, I have read and re-read the following paragraph from the introduction:

Cultivating a thankful heart is a safeguard against becoming bitter, prickly, and sour. A grateful child of God can't help but be a joyful, peaceful, radiant person. [Page 17]

Yeah, I gotta feeling that I'm 'bout to be smacked up 'side the head!
